I just applied for an IPTV Connection here http://210.212.204.4:8282/iptv/. Once you finish entering the details it will give you a reference number. So when will you actually get to see IP Television, maybe a year from now (from my experience with BSNL Broadband).
So what is IP TV?
IPTV (Internet Protocol television) is the delivery of programming by video stream encoded as a series of Internet Protocol packets (The very same IP as in TCP/IP). IPTV get you all the channels which you are familiar with and also stored content like video on demand.
The difference will be in the quality of the picture, unlike cable television where all channels are transmitted at one through the physical media, in IP you are transmitted only the content which you have chosen. With advanced compression in encoding algorithms like 264H this means a lot of bandwidth saving and a higher picture quality.
From what I came across on the net, the IPTV Install will require a set top box with costs about 4000Rs and the monthly basic bill for IPTV will be 150Rs, higher if you watch all those hollywood movies.
